Ability Score Value Ability Modifier Description
Strength
This ability score's modifier affects ability to hit with melee weapons, damage dealt by melee and thrown weapons, Combat Modifier Bonus and Combat Modifier Defense, carrying capacity, Strength checks (like those required to break down a door) and two skills (Climb and Swim).
Dexterity
This ability score's modifier affects ability to hit with ranged and and thrown weapons and ranged spell attacks, Armor Class, Combat Modifier Defense, Reflex saving throws, and seven skills (Acrobatics, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Fly, Ride, Selight of Hand and Stealth).
Constitution
This ability score's modifier affects hit points, Fortitude saving throws, ability to endure extreme conditions and continue strenuous activity for longer periods of time.
Intelligence
This ability score's modifier affects languages known, number of skill points to spend at each level, and five skills (Appraise, Craft, Knowledge, Linguistics and Spellcraft). Additionally, a high intelligence score determines a wizard's number of known spells. A minimum of 11 is required for a wizard to be able to cast 1st level spells.
Wisdom
This ability score's modifier affects Will saving throws and five skills (Heal, Perception, Profession, Sense Motive and Survival). Additionally, a high wisdom score determines the number of spells a cleric, druid or ranger know. A minimum of 11 is required for any of these classes to be able to cast 1st level spells.
Charisma
This ability score's modifier affects seven skills (Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, Handle Animal, Intimidate, Perform and Use Magic Device). Additionally, a high charisma score determines the number of spells a bard, paladin or sorcerer know. A minimum of 11 is required for any of these classes to be able to cast 1st level spells.
